NSF awards $250,000 grant to 探花楼 chemistry

Aug. 23, 2024 – DENTON – The National Science Foundation has awarded a $250,000 grant to Shiru Lin, PhD, of the 探花楼 Chemistry and Biochemistry division.

The grant will support Lin's project, "LEAPS鈥怣PS: Revolutionizing Water Treatment with Smart Metal鈥怬rganic-Frameworks for Enhanced Adsorption and Intelligent Adsorbent Exploration."

The project's description:

"This project involves utilizing forcefield鈥恇ased methods to compute the adsorption ability and capacity of various Metal鈥怬rganic鈥怓rameworks (MOFs) with different siloxanes. In addition, we employ Density Functional Theory (DFT) computations to delve into the siloxane adsorption mechanisms of MOFs. The integration of structural and physical properties of both MOFs and siloxanes as features in our Machine Learning training aims to accelerate the screening process for MOFs in water treatment applications, particularly for siloxane removal."
