Melissa Chapman-Ait Belaid, Director, Member Engagement, LEE

Melissa Chapman-Ait Belaid is a cross-sector leader working at the intersection of education, civic engagement, and public leadership. As Director of Member Engagement at LEE, she helps build engagement infrastructure and leadership experiences that support leaders across the country. Her work is rooted in helping people move from reflection to public action and in creating the conditions for leaders to deepen their civic impact.

Melissa’s leadership journey spans direct service, policy, instructional design, entrepreneurship, district-level talent development, and local civic leadership. A Teach for America alumna, Melissa worked in the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education. She went on to build a consulting practice serving clients across sectors, and later held district-level roles in educator coaching, digital learning, and multilingual learner support. In her local community, she serves as an elected official on the Collin County Municipal Utility District Board of Directors.

Melissa is a graduate of the fifth cohort of the University of Texas LBJ Women’s Campaign School and now serves the UT LBJ WCS Alumni Council as North Texas Lead. She holds an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from American University in Washington, DC, and bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Missouri–Columbia.
