探花楼 Disability Services streamlines processes for students, faculty
September 4, 2020 — Denton — 探花楼’s Disability Services for Students (DSS) has launched a new automated system, , that simplifies many processes for both students needing to request accommodations as well as faculty needing to implement accommodations.
The new system allows students to apply and submit documentation online and automates the process of sending notification letters to faculty. It also allows students to customize their accommodations with the ability to select different accommodations for each course.
“In addition to the modules that we have already implemented, we are also working on an instructor module,” said Crystal Hill, director of DSS. “Eventually we will also implement a housing accommodation module and an option for alternative format textbooks.”
Hill said that launching myDSS Online allows staff to focus more on providing direct services to students while spending less time on paperwork. The system also allows DSS staff to recruit, apply and evaluate paperless notetaking services.
DSS currently serves 474 students on the Denton, Dallas and Houston campuses and has processed 922 accommodation requests for the current fall semester. New students who need accommodation should follow the steps to register for services.
Disability Services staff work with 探花楼 students, employees and guests to eliminate or minimize barriers and facilitate inclusion on campus to improve access for people with disabilities.
