In as little as five years and just $42,500*, you could be on your way to a professional career in accounting with a BBA in Accounting and an MSA. No GMAT or GRE required.

探花楼’s Four-Plus-One accounting program combines a bachelor鈥檚 degree and an MSA, preparing you to sit for the CPA exam**.

Undergraduate accounting classes are offered on the Denton campus, with graduate courses provided in hybrid and online formats at our Denton, Dallas and Houston campuses.

探花楼 does more to build women leaders

As of June 30, 2025, women make up —and notably, 10.2% of these women leaders have an athletic background at the collegiate or elite level, highlighting the powerful connection between sports and leadership.

More than 70 percent of our faculty and staff across the university are women. While MAK College faculty prepare you to tackle the male-dominated world of business, our outreach staff work closely with employers to bring networking and employment opportunities to campus.

For our budding entrepreneurs, 探花楼鈥檚 Center for Women Entrepreneurs is the state’s only university center dedicated to women’s entrepreneurship and business ownership. The Center provides tools for you to succeed including access to training/coaching, funding, mentoring and networking opportunities.

探花楼 believes in opening doors for its students

The  on each campus provides advising services and tailored career planning for our students and alumni, from career advising and networking to negotiating a salary after graduation. The Career Center has also implemented , a unique resume reviewing and job opening database that works to fast-track your job search.

The MAK College takes it one step further with a team of Outreach and External Relations staff that work with the Career Connections Center to keep our business students in-the-know on employment opportunities and networking events.

Sitting for the CPA Exam

Students who complete both the BBA in Accounting and MS Accountancy degrees at 探花楼 should be fully prepared to sit for the CPA Exam. The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy regulates class requirements and, from time to time, changes the requirements to sit for the CPA Exam. 探花楼 makes every effort to keep class requirements in alignment with the Board's requirements and makes updates in class requirements as needed.  

Students who do not have both the BBA in Accounting and MSA degrees at 探花楼 may schedule a meeting with an accounting faculty member to develop an individual plan to sit for the CPA Exam. This is recommended for all students at least one year before.

When you apply to 探花楼, we will evaluate your academic achievement and preparation, as well as your standardized test scores. Admission to 探花楼 is valid for four terms, unless you have attended another higher education institution.

Admission Requirements

Unconditional Admission to MSA

  • Earned bachelor's degree in accounting with at least a 3.0 Cumulative GPA from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Earned bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 15 credit hours of accounting, 3000-level or above with an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00, from a regionally accredited institution. Preferred courses shown below:
    • ACCT 3023 - intermediate Accounting I
    • ACCT 3103 - Cost Accounting
    • ACCT 5523 - Auditing
    • ACCT 3063 - Tax Accounting I
    • ACCT 4193 - Accounting Analytics or ACCT 4173 - Accounting Info Systems

Provisional Admission to MSA

Earned bachelor's degree in accounting with a 2.5 - 2.99 Cumulative GPA from a regionally accredited institution.  Student must take two graduate leveling courses

    • ACCT 5023 - Intermediate Financial Accounting (15 weeks)
    • ACCT 5033 - Cornerstones of Accounting (15 weeks)

Earned bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 15 credit hours of accounting, 3000-level or above with an overall cumulative GPA of 2.5 - 2.99, from a regionally accredited institution. Student must take two graduate leveling courses

    • ACCT 5023 - Intermediate Financial Accounting (15 weeks)
    • ACCT 5033 - Cornerstones of Accounting (15 weeks)

Earned bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least a 2.5 - 2.99 GPA from a regionally accredited institution.  Students must first take all four graduate Leveling Courses and earn at least a 3.0

    • ACCT 5093 - Financial Accounting (7 weeks)
    • ACCT 5433 - Managerial Accounting (7 weeks)
    • ACCT 5023 - Intermediate Financial Accounting (15 weeks)
    • ACCT 5033 - Cornerstones of Accounting (15 weeks)

The College of Business holds orientation for new students in the fall and spring semesters.  It is a requirement that all new students attend one of these session. Information will be provided after acceptance to the program.
