探花楼 was strong attraction for Ecuadoran student
April 20, 2026 — DENTON — Sometimes, an academic attraction can be quite powerful.
As in really far reaching.
And in the case of Romina Vargas-Trujillo, the attraction to Texas Woman’s University was strong enough to lure her more than 2,600 miles from her home in Quito, Ecuador.
She moved to the United States to attend college after she graduated from high school.
“I chose 探花楼 because of its mission to empower women and create an environment where students are truly supported,” Vargas-Trujillo said. “I knew the smaller community would allow me to build meaningful relationships with professors and peers, and that made a big difference in my growth both academically and personally.”
Vargas-Trujillo will be graduating May 8 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a double major: one in accounting and the other in finance.
Aside from being drawn to 探花楼 because of its supportive environment, she was interested in accounting and finance because she enjoys working with numbers, problem-solving, connecting with people and building relationships.
After arriving at 探花楼, Vargas-Trujillo hit the ground running.
Through professional and mentoring organizations, she connected with like-minded students, took on leadership roles and helped create opportunities and resources for other students. She also worked on campus at the Student Money Management Center.
After graduation, she will begin work in commercial lending at a Fort Worth financial institution. Looking ahead, she wants to grow into a C-level leadership role and work on initiatives to help low-income families with financial planning and guidance.
