Student organizations

Getting involved in campus life is one of the most effective ways to develop the communication, leadership, and civic engagement skills that law schools look for. 探花楼 offers organizations directly relevant to pre-law students, and connections to nationally active law-related programs.

There are several student organizations, like the Barrister's Club and the Student Government Association, to support your academic work. Explore them here.

Resources for first generation and low-income students

First-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds face particular structural challenges on the path to law school — from navigating the LSAC process with limited guidance, to financing a legal education, to code-switching in professional environments that may feel unfamiliar. 探花楼’s pre-law advising program is committed to supporting these students explicitly. Additional resources include:

LSAC fee waivers — covering LSAT, CAS, and application fees at many schools for qualifying students (lsac.org)

AccessLex Institute — accesslex.org — financial literacy tools and scholarship data specifically for law students

CLEO (Council on Legal Education Opportunity) — cleoprograms.org — pre-law programs, seminars, and intensive institutes for minority, low-income, and disadvantaged college students. CLEO Scholars programs range from short seminars to multi-week residential institutes and provide substantive preparation for law school and the bar.

First-generation law student networks at individual law schools — many law schools have dedicated FGLI student organizations.

Pipeline and summer pre-law programs

Several programs offer intensive summer preparation specifically for students from underrepresented backgrounds. These programs provide LSAT preparation, application coaching, and exposure to law school curricula:

LSAC PLUS Programs — four-week intensive programs targeted at underrepresented minority college students, providing law school skills preparation and admissions guidance.

CLEO Pre-Law Institutes — residential and nonresidential programs providing skills training, LSAC and application guidance, and networking.

Law school-specific pipeline programs — many individual law schools run their own outreach programs for first-generation, low-income, or minority college students. Examples include the University of Houston Law Center Summer Pipeline Program and UC Davis King Hall Outreach Program. Check the websites of law schools you are considering.

Atlantis Pre-Law Summer Abroad Program — provides international legal exposure for pre-law students.
